Basic Preparation Instructions for Creamy Wheat Farina Hot Cereal

Basic Preparation Instructions for Creamy Wheat Farina Hot Cereal

Our Bob’s Red Mill Creamy Wheat Hot Cereal (also known as wheat farina) is one of our very favorite hot cereals. It’s made from hard wheat and can be served as a delicious breakfast cereal with brown sugar and cream, or made savory and high in protein with the addition of an egg.  Our Basic Preparation Instructions for Creamy Wheat Farina Hot Cereal suggest serving it hot, with brown sugar and milk, and a pat of butter. For something slightly different, serve it with cinnamon, maple syrup, bananas or other fruit.  Depending on your preparation of choice, you can make cream of wheat on the stovetop, slow cooker or in the microwave. For stovetop preparation, bring water and salt to a boil then slowly whisk in the cereal. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, whisking frequently. Once it’s removed from the heat, allow your cereal to stand for two minutes then decorate as you please! The slow cooker prep method is good for enjoying cream of wheat on busy school or workdays. Simply combine your water, salt and cereal in a slow cooker, stir and cover. Cook on high for 1 ½–2 hours when you first wake up in the morning, then enjoy a tasty meal before the kids leave.  For microwave prep, combine your cereal and salt in a microwave-safe bowl, stir well, and microwave on high in 30-second intervals. When you have a craving for cream of wheat but not much time to prepare it, this method works well! However you choose to enjoy our wholesome Creamy Wheat Farina Hot Cereal, we hope you love it. It’s smooth, satisfying and sure to fill you up and keep you going throughout the whole morning.  Once you master this hot cereal recipe, try using our Wheat Farina for other breakfast favorites, like Banana Nut Pancakes or Arugula Eggs Benedict with Crispy Farina Cakes. Farina also tastes delightful in desserts, like this simple recipe for Butterscotch Pecan Squares.
