A flavorful cracker that you won't want to put down, these Savory Gluten Free Crackers are gluten free and made with some pretty impressive ingredients. Arrowroot starch and Organic Amaranth Flour are used to replicate the same taste and texture as whole grain flour, minus the gluten. These crackers are then flavored with ground cinnamon, oregano, garlic salt and cream of tartar for a wildly delicious treat. Eager to begin baking them? Let's get started.
Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp Whole Caraway Seeds
- 1/2 cup Arrowroot Starch
- 1/2 tsp ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 cup Almond Flour
- 3/4 cup Organic Amaranth Flour
- 1/4 tsp Sea Salt
- 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Cream of Tartar
- 1/4 tsp Garlic Salt
- 1 tsp Oregano
- 3 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
- 3 Tbsp Water
- 1 Tbsp White Hulled Sesame Seeds
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the oven. Start by preheating the oven to 350°F. Doing so will ensure that the oven is at the right temperature when you're ready to use it. And you can save time by mixing the cracker dough while it's heating.
Step 2: Begin to crush the caraway seeds using a mortar and pestle. If you don't have one on hand, find a firm surface and something heavy to grind the seeds. Place the crushed seeds in a large bowl with all the other dry ingredients except for the sesame seeds, and stir thoroughly.
Step 3: Mix the oil and water and add it to the flour mixture in one pour. Stir the dough until a ball forms. If you notice that the dough looks dry and crumbly, slowly add more water until the dough sticks together.
Step 4: Once a dough ball has formed, separate it in half, rolling it out onto wax paper. Roll the dough relatively thin, and cut it into 1 ½-inch triangles or squares.
Step 5: Next, sprinkle the sesame seeds onto an ungreased cookie sheet and place the cut cracker dough onto the cookie sheet to bake for 15 minutes.
Step 6: After 15 minutes have passed, remove the crackers from the oven, place them onto a wire rack on the cookie sheet, and return it to the oven allowing the crackers to crisp for 5-7 minutes.
Step 7: Cool the crackers completely and enjoy, or store in an airtight container. Repeat with the other half of the dough.
Makes 4 dozen crackers.
