Almond Paste

Almond Paste

When you’re creating recipes for pastries and baked goods at home, you might see almond paste listed as an ingredient. Folks often pass on the recipe if they don’t have this sweet filling on hand, but the good news is, it’s super simple to make at home!

Almond paste is a traditional sweet filling that’s used for pastries and croissants in many different countries around the world. You can use it to fill danishes, cookies, cakes or truffles. All you need to make your homemade almond paste is Almond Flour, powdered sugar, egg whites, almond extract and sea salt.

Just place all ingredients in a bowl and mix until well combined. Store refrigerated and tightly wrapped for up to 10 days and use in all your best baked goods! For a fantastic texture, use Bob’s Red Mill Almond Flour for your almond paste. Our Super-Fine Almond Flour is made from the finest California-grown almonds, which have been blanched and ground to a fine meal. It’s ideal for gluten free and paleo baking recipes and makes the most perfect almond paste!

After you’ve made your almost paste, try this recipe for Chocolate Dipped Almond Horns from Flavor the Moments. These chewy, gluten free cookies are made with almond paste, Bob’s Red Mill Almond Flour, sugar, egg whites, a pinch of salt, coconut oil and sliced almonds. After your cookies have been baked and are golden brown, dip them in melted chocolate chips and enjoy. For an extra almond filled day, pair your treats with a tall glass of cold almond milk.

You can also use your almond paste to experiment with croissants, like this recipe for Almond Croissants from Simply Home Cooked. The croissants are buttery and flaky, and include almond paste inside each delightful pastry.

As the recipe mentions, making croissants isn’t difficult, it just takes some time and technique! The taste of homemade almond paste once combined with the smooth and soft dough is wonderful. Make sure to mix some leftover almond paste with a splash of milk before spreading the mixture over the croissants and sprinkling with sliced almonds! Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar and enjoy.

However you choose to use your homemade almond paste, we’re certain you’ll love being able to whip up a batch of this baking ingredient whenever you please!
