Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked Adzuki Beans divided
  • 2 cups cooked Pearl Barley divided
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped (about 1 cup)
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • ½ cup Wheat Germ
  • ½ tsp Garlic Powder
  • ½ tsp ground Celery Seed
  • ½ tsp Sage
  • 1 ¼ tsp Kosher Salt
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper

Instructions

  1. In a food processor pulse 1 cup beans and 1 cup barley to create a chunky puree.
  2. Heat oil in a medium pan over medium-high heat. Add onion and sauté until golden, 7–10 minutes. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. In a large bowl, mash together puree, remaining beans and barley, sautéed onions and garlic, wheat germ, and spices until combined.
  4. Scoop ½ cup portions and form into eight patties.
  5. In a wide frying pan, heat oil over medium heat. Sear patties until brown, about 3–5 minutes per side.
