These simple whole wheat pancakes or waffles have a delicious nutty flavor and are a cinch to make! Eat them for breakfast (or breakfast for dinner) tonight.
Preheat a well-oiled skillet over medium-high heat or preheat a waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.
In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together water or milk, eggs, oil or melted butter and vanilla extract (if using). Add dry ingredients and whisk until just incorporated; do not over-mix.
Portion batter by ¼ cup scoops onto hot skillet and cook pancakes 3–5 minutes per side, until cooked through. For waffles, cook following manufacturer’s instructions. Serve hot.
