Homemade Granola

If you’ve been wondering how to make granola but don’t know where to begin, no need to fear. Bob himself knows a thing or two about perfectly constructed homemade granola and all it takes is a handful of ingredients and some simple preparation.

As Bob says, “Use my recipe as a basis, then add or subtract ingredients until you find the combination you like best.”

Granola has a wonderful way of being entirely versatile based on your unique tastes. Add a few ingredients, subtract a few and stick with the base. As long as you have oats, tasty morsels like nuts and seeds, and something to bind it together (like oil and sugar of honey or maple syrup), you’ll be good to go!

Once you learn how to make granola homemade, you’ll quickly realize how delicious it is to go in tune with the seasons. Perhaps during autumn, you’ll add chopped apple, cinnamon and nutmeg. In the springtime, you might be more inclined to use fresh blueberries from the farmers’ market. Whatever suits your taste, trust that and go with it! We’re certain you’ll be a granola making pro in no time.

Now for Bob’s homemade granola recipe:

Ingredients

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F and set aside two rimmed cookie sheets. Combine oats, coconut, wheat germ, seeds and nuts in a large bowl. In another container, mix together the butter, honey, water, salt and vanilla extract. Pour over grains, stirring thoroughly. Spread mixture thinly on cookie sheets and bake for 25-30 minutes, stirring frequently. Oats should be crisp and brown, but coconut should not be burned. Allow to cool thoroughly, then add raisins and place in an airtight container for storage. Can be stored up to 3 weeks without refrigeration.  Makes about 24 ⅓-cup servings.

As always, feel free to customize this recipe based on what you have on hand! Use almonds in place of chopped walnuts or maple syrup in place of honey. Experiment with extracts like

orange and almond extract. The sky’s the limit!
