Hosting an Easter Brunch

It’s spring! It’s spring! And Easter is just around the corner. Like all holidays, Easter is a time that is often busy and packed with activities. If you want to host an Easter brunch, it's important to plan ahead. You should decide whether or not you plan on attending a religious service, and whether you like to do your egg hunting in the morning or the evening. Talk with your friends and family too, and see what their plans are, so you know the best time of day to host your gathering. Pro Tip: Plan your menu and activities ahead of time, just to make life easier.

Decorate Ahead of Time

Because Easter seems to come and go so quickly and is filled with activities, decorating ahead of time can allow you to enjoy hosting your brunch, with minimal stress. Easter is the season of springtime colors and pastels, where fresh fruit arrangements and flower arrangements are popular decorating motifs. You can set up food or dessert stations or create little craft stations ahead of time if you plan on doing any egg decorating during your brunch. You can decorate the table with a classic Easter bunny theme or opt for simple spring pastels. Since it's Easter, we recommend pulling out your nice china. :)

Popular Dishes

Easter brunch fare can range depending on your time and taste buds. Try making deviled “breakfast” eggs and top them with bacon bits or crumbled sausage or these Toasted Eggs with Millet as a crunchy twist on an old fave. Omelets also make great brunch food, along with self-serve plates piled high with pancakes or waffles and breakfast meats like bacon and ham. You really can't go wrong with a hearty breakfast casserole, either! You can also set out finger foods, like these Mini Spring Veggie Quiches, as well as muffins and biscuits. Lay everything out like a buffet and everyone can make their plate. For your guests that are more interested in lunch items, a pretty spring salad is a great option, as well as big bowls of fresh and satisfying fruit salad. Or you can set up sandwich stations, and allow your guests to make their own mini-subs. Don't forget dessert! Everyone loves Easter candy, and you can also make creative sweets like this Coconut Easter Bunny Cake, or these Easy Gluten Free Vanilla Cupcakes. Finally, when it comes to drinks, Bellinis and Mimosas are always brunch favorites, and citrusy drinks like lemonade or homemade punch are great for the little ones.

Bonding Activities

Like any holiday, Easter is a time for gathering with friends and family and appreciating each other’s company. Depending on your age ranges, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of bonding activities planned to enjoy the time together. For the kids, decorating eggs is always a hit, and of course, an egg hunt. You can get the adults involved by making them hide the eggs, while the kids search them out. You can also have fun games like egg and spoon races, where each person has to balance an egg on a spoon while they navigate an obstacle course. Winners get special prizes. You can set up craft stations for parents to do crafts with their kids then host a little contest on who made “best craft ever.” If your brunch is adults only, you can still have games and activities that foster fun and family bonding time, like Easter-themed card games or charades. Outdoor games like horseshoes and corn hole are always big winners as well, especially since you’re often outdoors anyway for egg hunting. Hosting an Easter brunch can be as low-key or as fancy as you want to make it. With some careful pre-planning and attention to detail, it can be a wonderful time of fun and bonding (and a perfect excuse for yummy eats).
