Gluten Free Scottish Oatmeal is the original porridge of ancient Scotland that has been processed, packaged and tested in our gluten free facility. This true whole grain oatmeal is stone ground, not rolled, on our century-old mills, which creates gluten free oats with a creamy, smooth consistency.
Oatmeal originated in Scotland centuries ago. Instead of flattening or cutting them like rolled or steel cut oats, the Scots created a coarse meal by slowly grinding the oats between two large millstones. The resulting Scottish oats are more like traditional porridge oats: smooth, creamy and delicious!

Many years ago, Bob visited Scotland to learn the art of stone milling at the historic, water-powered Preston Mill. Today, we create Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Scottish Oatmeal using the same authentic techniques, and it contains all the health giving nutrients of our superior-quality oats: the germ, the oil and the fiber. The result is a unique and flavorful gluten free oatmeal that’s wonderful for your morning cereal or baked goods like cookies.

This gluten free product is tested, processed and packaged in our 100% dedicated gluten free facility. While oats are naturally gluten free, they can become cross-contaminated either in the field or in the mill. We inspect all of our deliveries and put them through an R5-ELISA gluten assay test: not just when the oats first arrive at the mill, but also during processing and packaging. They’re suitable for a gluten free diet, but they also taste great!

Because we use whole oats, our Scottish oatmeal is filled with fiber and protein. Like all whole grains, legumes, seeds and nuts, our oats also contain phytic acid. While this anti-nutrient is thought to offer several health benefits, if you are vegetarian or vegan and trying to reduce your consumption, soaking these oats overnight will help eliminate it.
